Consumer Reports

My research career is devoted to supporting consumers’ decision-making processes toward high value healthcare decisions. I have conducted studies that classified approaches to processing Internet health information, identified the heuristics that guide information seeking, and characterized information seeking strategies based on availability of socioeconomic resources. I have recently been involved with statewide projects on reducing overuse; understanding consumers’ views of cost sharing, quality and network choice; the development of an Internet based cost and quality tool for Californians; and identifying the actions future and expecting mother’s are willing to take to reduce the likelihood of an unnecessary Cesarean birth. I am currently faculty at the California State University, Sacramento and serve as a Research Consultant at Consumer Reports.
