Dr. Fairfield is an internist, educator, & health services researcher. She attended Bowdoin College and Boston University School of Medicine, completing residency at Beth Israel Hospital, fellowship through the Harvard Medical School General Medicine Fellowship, and a DrPH from Harvard School of Public Health, majoring in Epidemiology and Nutrition. After serving on the faculty at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Dr. Fairfield joined Maine Medical Center in 2002. She is the Associate Chief of Medicine and Physician-Scientist at the Center for Outcomes Research and EvaluationDr. Fairfield’s has been a primary care physician for 20 years. Her education and research now focuses on shared decision making, variation in care delivery, and overuse. She leads the IMPROVE initiative (improving Maine’s population health, research impact, outcomes, value, and health equity).  This project uses multiple data resources to inform care delivery improvement, reduce overuse, and select priorities for local population health programs.
