In this paper, Ricardo Ortiz focuses on two poems (Rigoberto Gonzalez’s “Casa” and Eduardo Corral’s “In Colorado My Father Scoured and Stacked Dishes”) and two films (Glatzer and Westmoreland’s Quinceañera and Fukunaga’s Sin Nombre). These texts comprise a kind of “shock” archive of cultural representations that reflect the threat of economic collapse looming over neoliberal America after the recession and housing crisis of 2008, the failure of immigration reform in the U.S., and the forces fueling continued migration north from Mexico and Central America.
