Nubia-Feliciano in her paper “¿Pelo Malo?: Hair, Colorism, and Afro-Boricua Women,” chronicles how the importance of hair in Black and Latin@ communities differ in the ways it is seen and interpreted, regulated and deemed acceptable, both within and outside of the communities. She reveals how these concepts break apart and re-emerge to create a different reality on the bodies of Afro-Boricua women.
