This article explores the relationship between job demands, job resources, and physical and mental health outcomes in the workplace, specifically stress, number of injuries, back pain, depressive symptoms and so on. Using 2014 General Social Survey data on workers in the construction and manufacturing sector, we find that job demands such as risks, hazards, and complexity impair worker’s physical and mental health. The results underscore the importance of physical and mental health in the workplace. Avenues for further research and practical implications for health care management are discussed.
