For years, mock trials have been an informative effective way to teach sport law. The author has removed this method and introduced video technology into the classroom.
Student teams are given an actual case for their video. The team will present the background, relevant case precedent, and implications for practice in the sport industry. Instead of re-enacting an actual trial, students are able to creatively “tell the story” to ensure retention of knowledge beyond the semester.
The video presentation allows for a balance of work amongst the group while rewarding students for the preparation outside of class. Teamwork, decision-making skills, technology, and communication skills are all critical components to the educational process of using videos.
