Modern micro-optics was invented about 50 years ago when Adolf W. Lohmann initiated the computer-generated holography (CGH). Today, diffractive and refractive micro-optical elements are key enabling technology (KET) used in numberless devices from smart phone sensors to high-power laser-based manufacturing systems. Planar micro-optics offers full freedom to shape any kind of light source at high precision with low losses. An overview about the different micro-optical elements for light shaping and their applications will be given.
