Anne-Marie Caminade

Anne-Marie Caminade is Director of Research Exceptional Class at the CNRS in Toulouse and head of the "Dendrimers and Heterochemistry" group at the LCC-Toulouse since 2006. After two PhDs in Toulouse and two Post-docs (IFP-Paris and von Humboldt fellow in Saarbrücken), she was recruited by the CNRS in 1985. She developed several aspects of phosphorus chemistry, including low coordinated compounds, transition metal coordination, and macrocycles. Her current research interest is on dendrimers, in particular on their use as catalysts, for nanomaterials and biology/nanomedicine. She is the co-author of about 440 publications, 50 book chapters and 30 patents (h index 60).

Clara Viñas

Clara Viñas graduated in Chemistry and in Pharmacy. PhD in Pharmacy under the supervision of Prof. F. Teixidor in 1990. Pre-doctoral stay at the Prof. Rudolph’s laboratory at The University of Michigan for a year. Back to Barcelona, worked for industry and later moved to Sabadell City Hall Labs where she became the director to work on food and environmental control. She joined the C.S.I.C. as tenured scientist in 1991; promoted to research scientist in 2002 and to research professor in 2006. Her research interests are: synthesis of novel boron compounds to be used for future medicinal applications (h= 45)

Abstract

Inorganic polymeric materials are growing in importance as a result of increased demand for new materials with specific properties. Inorganic polymers have remarkable properties that can be superior to those of their organic counterparts in a variety of ways including, for example, thermal stability (polysilazanes), controlled degradability in drug-delivery systems, water repellents, flame retardants and metal ion conductors in batteries (polyphosphazenes), precursors for ceramics, microlithography and electroluminescent devices (polysilanes). Furthermore, the discovery of new synthetic approaches to metallopolymers led to rapid growth of this field and of the range of applications for these functional materials. Inorganic polymers offer an innovative approach for sustainability by switching from hydrocarbon/oil-based polymers to element-based polymers and lessen the burden on scarce non-renewable resources or even provide alternatives to those. In terms of applications, inorganic polymers are now found in many consumer products, demonstrating their technological importance, and investigation of new applications continues in laboratories worldwide. The primary goal of this workshop (SIPs@PBSi) is to explore the challenges and opportunities that inorganic monomers and polymers offer, particularly within a cross-disciplinary context.

We are happy to welcome to the workshop our plenary and invited speakers, who are renowned scientists and leaders in a number of inorganic polymers-related research areas, including synthesis of monomers, dendrimers and polymers, shape control, structure and growth mechanisms, and applications in catalysis, photonics and optoelectronics. They will present their latest research in a number of additional cross-disciplinary areas.
