How many times have we seen a huge amount of energy go into a technical report, only for it to be put on the shelf and not fully adopted by operational managers and/or training developers?
A theoretical technical report is all well and good but providing practical methods of application ‘where the rubber hits the road’ is what makes a real difference within a client organisation, especially when it comes to addressing training needs.
This workshop was inspired by a recent project in a railway control environment where an innovative approach was taken to translate findings from a traditional Risk Based Training Needs Analysis (RBTNA) into a new format that:
Could be easily understood and applied by training developers within the client organisation;
Directly supports the organisation’s objectives to improve individual and team performance via development of non-technical skills and behaviours;
Provides practical methods for making non-technical skills and behaviours training more relatable to real-life operational tasks by integrating as part of the technical training syllabus; and
Defines a pathway for ongoing training and development outside of the classroom to further embed ‘on the job’ learning.
During this session, we will explore as a group how we as Human Factors professionals can present our technical findings in a way that provides clear and specific guidelines on how recommendations can be implemented by stakeholders within the client organisation (who often have little or no understanding of Human Factors).
