Graham Nicholas

RSSB

Graham Nicholas has worked for over 30 years in the UK rail industry as a professional engineer. The first half of his career was largely spent in train maintenance depots with responsibility for the delivery of safe and reliable passenger rolling stock to operate trains services. As well as daily management duties, associated activities involved recruitment, training, engagement with trade union representatives – and occasionally cajoling and coercing workshop staff who had differing opinions over the rights and wrongs of how maintenance should be undertaken. Graham’s current role is as Lead Assurance Engineer for RSSB with responsibility for managing the RISAS Approval Bodies, as well as contributing to RISAS development initiatives. He was heavily involved with the development of the Human Factors and Organisational Culture criteria, bringing together his previous shopfloor engagement experiences with knowledge of how typical RISAS assessments are undertaken.
