CIRAS sets out to improve safety culture through shared intelligence. Feedback obtained from CIRAS reporters during the reporting process in 2016-17 indicated varying safety culture maturity across the membership. A more detailed online safety culture survey has been undertaken across the membership and this paper presents the findings.
This paper presents the findings on safety and reporting culture from an online survey of 1,035 respondents, undertaken by CIRAS (Confidential Incident Reporting and Analysis System), from employees in different transport sectors.
Comparisons across four main transport sectors are made for areas such as:
· Clarity on reportable safety issues and willingness to act
· Perceptions of the safety reporting environment
· Perceptions of the effectiveness of internal reporting systems
Keywords: Safety culture, confidential reporting
