The market for Traffic Management Systems in Rail is expectedto exceed 30 billion US dollars in 2017 and to double in value over the next 5years.
This paper will consider what constitutes a TMS in terms ofits core features and the key benefits it can provide.
In practice, implementations of TMS vary considerably intheir ambitions and this is reflected in the scope of their functionality. There can be a disconnect between the systems supplier and the intended user, based on the conflicting operational concept.
The paper will consider the wider concept of TMS and map anumber of different TMS approaches with the field of overall Rail ManagementSystems.
The Human Factors implications for the types of TMS approachwill be discussed together with their expected benefits.
