In recent years, urban renewal studies continued to increase and they aimed to reduce the risk of natural disasters that İstanbul faced. Studies show that the durability of the buildings has been increased and settlements which located strong ground region and weak ground region were identified with the ground studies. There are collective and parcel-based urban renewal studies in the settlements that located weak ground regions; moreover, the precautions were taken towards natural disasters with these studies. However, consequences of the study are lack of social and physical infrastructure and lack of transportation connections. furthermore, new extended settlement areas are also a new risk for İstanbul. In addition, natural disaster risks are decreased in one way, but increased.
