The signs of climate change, that affect people's everyday life in many aspects, are becoming increasingly apparent. Tourism, which is a sensitive sector due to its strong linkage with environment and climate, is expected to receive great impacts because of the climate change. On the other hand, tourism sector is able to contribute the climate change because it gives additional loads in increasing pollutants in the atmosphere, both from transportation and emissions of tourist accommodation.
The global community, having realized the impacts of climate change on tourism, has turned to sustainable development policies, which are actions that harmoniously combine tourism and development with the environmental protection. Additionally, the maximum adaptability of tourism to climate change, which is inextricably linked with sustainable development, is a goal that has been set for the harmonization of human beings with the future climate.
Taking into account all the above, the main purpose of this poster is to connect the term “climate change” with those of “sustainable development” and “resilience” focusing on the tourism sector, by presenting the influences of climate change on tourism and the impacts of tourism on the environment, which can potentially contribute to the intensity of the phenomenon of climate change. The ultimate aim is to draw certain conclusions about possible shortcomings and problems while creating strategies to adapt tourism to climate change and to explore possible ways to improve these strategies in the future having as main pillars the terms of sustainability and resilience.
