Nowadays Assessment for Learning (AfL) has been practicing in schools in different countries. Research shows that assessment for learning (AfL) significantly improves students` learning. As formative assessment itself is a newly introduced product in an innovative transformation introduced by the Ministry of Education, Malaysia, it would be particularly interesting to investigate how it is being implemented. Therefore, this qualitative case study aimed to investigate how primary school ESL teachers implement AfL in their classrooms. Three ESL teacher along with their students took part in this study. Data were collected using interview, classroom observation and relevant documents. Constant Comparative Method (CCM) was adopted to analyze the data. The results indicated that teachers in this study lack enough knowledge of how to implement AfL and they need more training courses to help them learn how to implement the new assessment policy successfully.
