John Locke and Jean-Jacques Rousseau are recognized for their theories on the emergence of civil society, on law, and on sovereignty. However, both authors also dedicate a significant portion of their writings to education theory. They explore the formation of the individual within civil and political society. This presentation will discuss the educational philosophies of Locke and Rousseau in relation to their conceptions of human nature and state citizenship.
