In Fall 2017, twelve students took the course Videographic Film & Media Studies with Professor Jason Mittell. Over the semester, they learned both the technical dimensions of how to make video essays, and conceptualĀ approaches to conveying arguments and analysis using sounds and moving images rather than the written word. This presentation is a showcase of some of the student's work, presenting video essays using a variety of styles on a wide range of topics, including gendered violence in Hitchcock's films, characterization of villains in Pixar films, the composition of a "one room film," visuals in the African film Timbuktu, and the modern neo-Western film. The panel will be moderated by Sinead Keirans, the teaching assistant for the course.
