This thesis in architecture proposes a design for a new museum of art for Middlebury College. It aims to create an architecture that is alive. This goal is carried out from the largest scale to the smallest element. It is toward an architecture that is more than just visual but is sensory and organic.
The building is designed to operate internally like an organism, with a beating heart directing the flow through galleries. These are arranged along an axis, with center stairs, elevators, and a plaza at the center. This heart is the access point for all floors and also protrudes out so that each plaza can be seen from the road.
The presentation consists of a visual analysis of the campus and proposed site; hand drawings of plans, sections and elevations for the proposed design; and photographs of architectural models. Every scale of the project is represented visually, from the campus level down to my designs for chairs within galleries.
