Trauma-informed work at school - ACEs experienced by 11/12-year-old children
Tim Mulder
Augeo
During the final stage of my Masters in ‘Forensic Child and Youth Care Sciences’ at the University of Amsterdam, I did a six-month internship at Augeo. After that I started working at Augeo, just over three years ago. Within the organization I have the responsibility of coordinating the ‘Youth Taskforce on Violence Against Children’, which strives to provide a voice for children and young people who have experienced some form of (domestic) violence. Our activities range from listening to children and young people, to presentations for professionals, to policy discussions with representatives of the government. For the second half of my main activities, I have an active role in the different studies and research projects that are conducted within the organization, e.g. regarding the effectiveness of our digital courses. The present study is the result of a combination of both these activities: a relevant, new study with clear-cut and shocking results into the field of Dutch of adverse childhood experiences, by ánd for children and young people.
Youth Taskforce On Violence Against Children
Augeo
Augeo established the Youth Task Force on violence against childeren (Jongerentaskforce aanpak geweld tegen kinderen) in 2013. The task force is an independent organisation that provides a platform for children and young adults to join in the discussion about effective ways of tackling child abuse, parental divorce and bullying at school. The Youth Task Force comprises 13 members aged between 14 and 25. All of the members have some connection with these three issues. They have either been victims of abuse, divorce or bullying themselves, or have come into contact with the issue at school or in their circle of friends. Some of the members are studying for a profession that will bring them into professional contact with children or parents and have learned about children in need in this way. Augeo supports the work of the Youth Task Force, which also works with representatives from other initiatives and platforms for young people in the youth welfare sector.
