Intergenerational transmission of violence - Overview of symposium

Mathilde Overbeek

Yulius Academy, Yulius Mental Health, Dordrecht

Mathilde Overbeek graduated in 2007 as a child and adolescent psychologist. After working for 1.5 years as a professional in youth mental health care, she returned in 2008 to the university to start her PhD research. In this study she examined effective treatment elements in preventive care for children who have witnessed interparental violence. From September 2013 she worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the VU University, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, at the department of Clinical Child and Family Studies. Within this appointment she focused particularly on interventional research and parent-child relationships in vulnerable families. Since February 2016 she has been a senior researcher at the Yulius Academy of Yulius Mental Health. There she is currently involved in several projects on the topics of family psychiatry, transition psychiatry and special education.

Lenneke Alink

University of Leiden

Prof. dr. Lenneke Alink is professor of Forensic Family Studies and is head of the research cluster Child Maltreatment at the Centre for Child and Family Studies, Leiden University since 2014. She has received several grants for her research on the prevalence, predictors, risk factors and consequences of child maltreatment. In her work she uses a multidisciplinary approach focused on both neurobiological factors as well as socio-economic and family processes.

Bas Tierolf

Verwey-Jonker Institute

Drs. Bas Tierolf is a senior researcher at the Youth and education department of the Verwey-Jonker Institute Utrecht, the Netherlands since 2006. Besides, he holds a position as guest-researcher at the Department of Clinical Child and Family Studies of the VU University Amsterdam, since 2010. In his research he focuses on child abuse, child trauma, domestic violence and the evaluation of care facilities.  

Florentina C. Kunseler

FIER

Dr. Florentina (Floortje) C. Kunseler works as a senior researcher at Fier (an expertise and treatment center for victims, witnesses and perpetrators of violence in the context of relationships). Her research is focused on the intergenerational transmission of trauma, depression, anxiety and residential youth care. She previously worked at VU University where she wrote her dissertation titled  “A longitudinal and experimental analysis of the transition to parenthood: Explaining parenting self-efficacy, anxiety symptoms, and depressive symptoms”.
