The different kind of child abuse are still major problem in France. If clinical or sociological studies describe the psychopathology of the children admitted to the care of the social services for Children or their traumatic environment, they rarely correlate these two dimensions.
Our population-based study is carried out in a social service for children.
969 questionnaires have been filled out by the social workers who take care of them. We question the existence of a correlation between the children’s psychopathologic disorders and the abuse that they suffered in their own environment.
Here are the results :
- For children who faced educational deficency : 26,63% showed external disorders, 37,77 % showed internal disorders, 17,23 % showed both and 11,46 % did not show any psychopathological symptom.
- For children victims of domestic violences : 19,81 % showed external disorders, 32,51 % showed internal disorders, 14,86 % showed both and 8,77 % did not show any psychopathological symptom.
- For neglected children or suffering of carlessness: 14,96 % showed external disorders, 20,74 % showed internal disorders, 10,73 % showed both and 5,37 % did not show any psychopathological symptom.
Only 39 % of the children suffering psychopathological disorders receive a psychological support when they are helped by social services. This low ration can be explained by the very long delay before getting a public psychological consultation.
This survey leads us to consider how the social services deal with the childrens’s psychic suffering. The evolution of the public health policy questions the care’s specificity that is actually provided , and the way to improve it. To cope with the strong demand of care and the lack of possibility to get a public psychological consultation quickly enough, an experimentation, aimed at orientating young people towards freelance psychologists, has been voted in october, 2016.
