Alizah Alaman is working as Nursing Intern at Aga Khan University Hospital. She has completed her Bachelors in Science of Nursing from Aga Khan University School of Nursing and Midwifery in 2015. She is an active member of Rho Delta Chapter, The Honor society of Nursing and Sigma Theta Tau International. Her research interest lies in the field of Maternal and Child Health Nursing, Child Psychology and Sexual and Reproductive Health. She has presented her literature review papers and abstract in multiple national and international conferences and journals.
Introduction:
Family is a crucial and, prime most unit in an individual’s life. In this view point parents are regarded as the pillars of this unit. They are required to construct a concrete foundation for their children in order to endow them a successful and, gratifying life. Conflicts and disputes in parental relationships can distort child’s wellbeing and posse’s stern impacts on entire child development as children developed problems in internalizing and externalizing of parental relationships leading to detrimental effects.
Purpose:
To show the effects of interparental conflicts on every stage of child development and how immensely a child suffers socially, emotionally, psychologically and physiologically by these disputes.
Methods:
This paper reviews different literatures from the year 2005 to 2014 viewing the effects of parental conflicts on the development of children. PubMed, Google scholarly and science direct are the referred search engines for this paper
Findings:
Literature supports that the children who get exposed to every day conflicts between parents developed psychological, behavioral, emotional, cognitive, physical and social problems which may include the risk of adjustments problem, diminish confidence level, low self esteem, less socially competent child, early menarche in girls, children blame themselves, raise the risk of sleep problems and physical illness, diminish the cognitive ability, feeling of insecurity with both parents, development of antisocial behaviors and poor academic performance. The alterations are specific to the developmental task that needs to be attain at every developmental stage according to Erickson theory.
Conclusion:
Parent’s posses a great impact on the children and the interparental conflict precipitates stress in Children’s life. By practicing assertive communication techniques the conflicts could be resolved peacefully without encumbering the development of children.
