A Qualitative Comparison of the Structure and Function of Two Child Protection Systems

Richard D. Krugman, MD, is Distinguished Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine where he has been for his entire academic career. Dr. Krugman is a 1963 graduate of Princeton University, earned his medical degree in 1968 at New York University School of Medicine. He did his internship and residency in pediatrics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.  Dr. Krugman joined the CU faculty in 1973. He was a Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Fellow in 1980.  In 1981, he was named as Director of the C. Henry Kempe National Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Child Abuse and Neglect, and gained international prominence in the field of child abuse. He was appointed to the U.S. Advisory Board of Child Abuse and Neglect in 1989, serving as Chair from 1989-1991. He served 15 years as Editor-in-Chief of Child Abuse and Neglect: the International Journal (1986-2001) and is currently co-editing the Child Maltreatment book series for Springer.  He spent 25 years as Dean of the CU School of Medicine (1990-2015) and was elected to the National Academy of Medicine in 2005.
