Disseminating the SafeCare parenting program to prevent child maltreatment

Daniel J. Whitaker received his PhD in Psychology from the University of Georgia in 1996.  He was a scientist and team leader at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention from 1997-2007, and is now a Professor at School of Public Health at Georgia State University, where he directs the Division of Health Promotion and Behavior.  Dr. Whitaker also directs the National SafeCare® Training and Research Center (NSTRC), which disseminates the SafeCare model, a behavioral parenting model for child neglect and abuse prevention. Whitaker has overseen SafeCare’s dissemination broadly in the U.S. and to six non-U.S. countries. His research focuses on effectiveness and implementation research on child maltreatment. He has been funded by a number of public and private agencies in the U.S. including the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Institutes of Health, and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.  Since 2014, Dr. Whitaker has served as Editor in Chief for the journal Child Maltreatment.
