Mario Bruno was elected Mayor of Alghero in June 2014 and currently holds this position today.
He graduated in political science at the University of Sassari and in 1989, at age 24, he was elected alderman of Alghero in charge of Labor and Youth Programs. He also chaired the Laser Association (Free Association Regional Economic Development) from 1999 to 2004, which conducted significant projects in the field of local development policies, aimed at promoting new enterprises and guiding education.
In 2004 he was elected councilor for the Sardinia Project (Progetto Sardegna) list for the Provincial District of Sassari. Regional efforts created a "Island - shared idea" (Associazione Un'Isola - Idea condivisa), with the aim of bringing citizens closer to institutions and replenishing relationships of trust. It is one of the tools that allows citizens to make an agreement as a "citizen-voter" on which Mario Bruno founded his own role as the institutional representative. The citizen has the opportunity to participate in political, social and cultural development and to interact through continued dialogue with government representatives on the island of Sardinia.
