More than any other imaging modality, the medical use of ultrasound is highly dependent on the operator and quite prone to misdiagnosis, a potential amplified by the current development of more sophisticated equipment with wider applications.
In order to achieve maximum clinical benefit and achieve optimal use of resources, there is the need for medical operators ultrasound equipment to develop skills for conducting and interpreting results of this modality diagnostic.
All those involved in the provision of ultrasound services are ethically and legally vulnerable if they are not adequately trained. It is considered that the appropriate level of training in ultrasonography is one that allows provision of a safe and effective service.
The training in the practice of ultrasound should understand the following medical areas:
Gynecology, Obstetrics and Fetal Medicine, Gastroenterology, Nephrology / Urology, Mastology, Small parts, Musculoskeletal, Vascular and Pediatrics.
Education and continuing professional development are essential to any doctor involved in the practice of ultrasound. Recommendations and / or training standards should take into account the minimum practice of ultrasound tests to the professional skills and maintain minimum levels of educational activities, staying updated.
