How does the current digital wave impact the AEC industry and what can we learn from other industries?
Most industries have undergone huge digital changes over the last few decades, and have benefitted from process and product innovations. However the AEC industry has been slow to embrace the latest technological opportunities. Because of the massive size of the AEC sector, even small improvements in productivity will result in huge savings.
Technological maturity and the advancements in BIM as a digital twin for construction is of course one of the key foundation elements of this digital disruption but what are the drivers behind this change and what makes it reach the tipping point? How can the progress be sped up through software development.
The role of ecosystems and end users impact in digital disruption has usually been documented only once the industry already has been disrupted. What common events are leading to an industry getting disrupted. Are there parallels to the AEC? Currently most companies focus heavily on developing their own products and platforms to gain advantage in the digital world. However end user experience play a very significant role in the adoption process. How do we get the users to participate? How can we use software and automation to create more immersive, dynamic environments where users can easily participate, use their creativity and share their ideas.
