PROPOSAL FOR PRESENTATION
World Summit on Digital Built Environment WDBE 2018, Helsinki, Finland
Pointscene Next is a geospatial collaboration solution for built infrastructure design, construct and maintenance projects to share, access and interact and communicate with modern reality capture data in their work. Pointscene is built on modern digital tools streamlining the communication and data sharing between colleagues in a timely manner, and enabling them to access the vital information online with any device, anywhere and at any time.
Pointscene solution lets you share, use and manage any modern geospatial data in a web browser – everything from point clouds captured with drones and laser scanners to vector models and 360-panoramas, to photographs and any other location-specific documents. Users can collect, access and share all their relevant geospatial data, insights and geotagged documentation throughout the whole project or asset lifecycle, from design to construction and maintenance.
For our presentation proposal in WDBE 2018, Pointscene addresses the following problem area that workers in the digital built environment face everyday, in the field or office. Whether you are walking in a construction site of a new ring road, major junction or business park, you will notice employees of multiple organisations and companies that are dependant on each others accomplished tasks. It is too often very hard to know exactly what is the progress of work, and from an individual point of view, what is the actual status of the project and its schedule you are involved with. To get this insight and access the relevant documentation you’d need to call several persons, send messages around or even visit certain project locations to find out. This of course would take time and focus out of your own priorities.
Pointscene makes use of the conventions of modern digital communication tools that we are all accustomed to in our everyday lives, and combines them into an interactive and dynamically updating map solution. Pointscene lets employees access, input and share all necessary data and information they choose to get their tasks done and communicated further.
Pointscene’s solution automatically records geolocations of each field note, image and report, plus other provided content, and combines them in an interactive situational map for the colleagues and supervisors to access and comment on. No matter where you work from, you have the same near-real-time access to latest site information together with available design data and other background information, such as aerial drone maps or laser scanning data.
In WDBE2018, Pointscene will present unique customer cases and their gained benefits from domestic and international customers from different infrastructure segments in Finland, the Netherlands and United States. Customer cases are from civil construction, aggregates/quarrying reporting and oil & gas site and pipeline inspections. In each case Pointscene is helping the communication between different project parties, improving site data management and data availability, and helping customer staff to get tasks done in a more efficient way and as well-documented as possible.
We foresee that our clients within built environment design, construction and maintenance will make more use of these geo-social collaboration tools and invest into such solutions to improve employee collaboration, project efficiency and worksite safety, for field workers as well as office staff.
