&' [Emmi Keskisarja & Janne Teräsvirta & Company Architects] was founded in 2016 to develop new methods of practice, with close attention to research and design thinking. Janne Teräsvirta (b. Helsinki, 1975) studied architecture in Helsinki and Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. He has a wide built portfolio, consisting most notably of public and cultural buildings from his prior ventures as co-founder and partner in Ala Architects (2004-2015) and Playa Architecture Collective (2002-2004) in Helsinki. The most notable work at Ala, the Helsinki Central Library, is due to open in 2018. Janne’s work has been awarded internationally and, with his former partners, he was the recipient of the Finnish State Prize of Architecture in 2012. Janne has been a visiting professor in universities worldwide, including Columbia GSAPP in New York, University of Washington Sam Fox School of Architecture in St. Louis, and CEDIM in Monterrey/Mexico. He has also held teaching positions at the Aalto University School of Architecture, and he was Vice President at the Finnish Architects' Association (SAFA) 2015-2017.
