The ferroelectric perovskite ceramics are extensively used in various industrial and commercial devices. Pure and doped binary 0.64PbMg1/3Nb2/3O3-0.36PbTiO3 and ternary 0.57BF-0.31PMN-0.12PT PMN-PT ceramic systems have been synthesized near MPB by solid state reaction method and various structural, dielectric, piezoelectric, pyroelectric and ferroelectric studies were carried out. A high value of spontaneous polarization (~41 μC/cm2), transition temperature (Tc ~ 285 °C), piezoelectric charge coefficient (d33 ~ 250 pm/V) and pyroelectric coefficient (p ∼ 3300 μCm-2 oC-1) were achieved which did not degrade even after 107 cycles. The conventionally reported above values of polarization actually contains contributions from both switchable and non-switchable components. We have performed “remanent hysteresis task” and “positive-up-negative-down technique” and “resistive leakage” to extract the true (intrinsic) polarization which is usable for memory device applications.
In addition, our recent results in respect of lead free Na0.52K0.44Li0.04Nb0.84Ta0.10Sb0.06O3 (NKLNTS) ceramic will also be presented. A high value of transition temperature (Tm~305 oC) , dielectric permittivity (~2110), spontaneous polarization (~12.37 μC/cm2 ), piezoelectric charge coefficient (d33 ~ 754 pm/V) and pyroelectric coefficient (p ∼ 1921.9 μCm-2 oC-1) was achieved with negligible contribution of ‘non-switchable polarization’. These lead free NKLNTS ceramic was found to be superior to many lead based piezoceramics and are used for piezoelectric energy harvesting.
